I'm Abby, a 28 year old mom from Mississauga, Ontario who is learning to take care of myself while juggling 2 kids (ages 2 and 4), a rotating shift-working husband, a work from home business (or three depending on who you talk to), and volunteering at a youth centre.
I've been trying to find a way for me to squeeze in some exercise into my schedule, the only problem, I hate exercise! So I found something that I enjoy and that gets me some much needed alone time.
I've always loved the water and I live in Southern Ontario, one of the best places in the world for beautiful waterways. So, I decided to start kayaking. I went to The Toronto Paddle Shack with a very good friend of mine, Nan, who is a bit of an expert in the world of paddling, and bought myself a basic kayak. Basic, but beautiful! It's cherry red, 12 feet long, and has lots of room for take along gear, or a kid, if I decide to share my time out on the water.
I took it out for the first time today at Rockwood Conservation area. It's a very cool park, lots of islands to paddle around and even a waterfall (a dam). Unfortunately, the water quality is bordering on the "gross" level. The beach even had high bacteria warnings posted. Eww!
But overall, it was a great day of getting out on the water. I even took my 2 kids and my neice out for a little paddle!
I'm so looking forward to my next paddle! Hopefully, on clearer water next time!
